#BookBlogWriMo Day 6: #TBT Favorite Childhood Books

The prompt for day six in BookBlogWriMo – hosted by Book Bumblings – was one that I had been looking forward to since the beginning; favourite childhood books.

When I think of my childhood there are two books and one series hat come to mind: Love You Forever by Robert Munsch, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, and Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling.

When I was younger I had two copies of Love You Forever, an original copy that is old and tattered and the special hardback edition you see above. It is one of those kids books that will stay on your bookshelf forever and will be passed on through the generations. The message of the book is so simple, but so powerful that it is tough to forget the infamous line: “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my baby you’ll be.” If I’m being honest with you, I’ve read the book so many times that I pretty much have it memorised.

Most of my early reading memories come from C.S. Lewis. Even before I could read my dad would read me The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe before bed every night…over and over again. It was the perfect adventure before to finish a day off and I would stay up – probably later than I should have – wanting to hear what happened next. I think it is safe to say that this illustrated copy of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the gateway into my love and passion for books.

Last, but certainly not least, we have Harry PotterWhat sort of childhood list of books would this be if I didn’t include good ol’ J.K. This book series shaped my life; it made me the person I am today. I’ve made friends through Potter; learned through Potter; experienced loss, love, courage, respect, power, revenge, and so much more through Potter. There is a reason these books are as popular as they are (sticking with present tense here). The number of times I reread this series throughout my childhood is insane, but I wouldn’t change it in a heartbeat. I was a Potterhead way back in the day, I’m a proud Potterhead today, and I will continue to be a Potterhead for many, many years to come.
